Timber in Construction
Timber is
a natural, renewable, biodegradable,
non-toxic and recyclable. Timber gives
excellent levels of natural thermal
insulation.
When sourced from certified well-managed
forests there is no better building
material in terms of impact upon the
environment.
Within Palgrave
Brown a quantity of timber waste is
used for heat and power. Wood shavings
are extracted, filtered, stored and
then sold on.
Environmental Policy
The environment
in one way or another makes daily headlines
across the world, with the issue of
global warming at its heart and the
recognition that the planet’s resources
are precious. As a living, natural resource,
timber is highly sustainable and is
ever more the preferred choice for building,
aided by government policies and legislation.
Less Waste
Palgrave
Brown’s environmental commitment also
runs through site management. Where
possible, a quantity of timber waste
is used for heat and power, while wood
shavings are extracted, filtered and
then sold on for re-use to help minimise
wastage.

Timber Sourcing
Predominately
our timber comes from Nordic Countries
where forestry is controlled by strict
government licence. Palgrave Brown have
invested in sustainable timber certification
schemes, commonly known as Chain of
Custody, to enable us to prove that
the source of our timber is sustainable.
The auditors of our chain of custodies
are BM TRADA and the schemes are approved
by the UK government and recognised
by BRE and the Eco Home assessment scheme.

As a consequence
of Palgrave Brown’s policy and our investment
in complete and auditable third party,
independent chain of custody we are
able to assist developers in obtaining
Eco Home Credits at no additional cost.
